Our 6 frame National nucs are headed by marked 2026 Buckfast queens from proven performance lines. These queens are chosen for calm temperament, strong brood patterns and reliable performance in UK conditions.
As a result, colonies build steadily in spring and respond well to good management. In turn, this steady development allows them to grow into productive full hives within the same season.
Each nuc comes on British Standard National frames. Therefore, it suits both National and WBC hives without modification.
What You Will Receive
At collection, each nuc will contain:
Six frames fully covered with bees
At least three frames of brood in all stages
At least one full frame of food stores
Around 10,000–12,000 bees
A marked, mated and actively laying 2026 queen
In addition, every nuc is supplied in a genuine Paynes poly 6 frame nuc box. As a result, transport is secure and you can keep the box for future use.
Colony Development
Buckfast bees are calm and predictable. Because of this, they are easy to handle and quick to expand in spring.
During early summer, colonies grow at a steady pace. If forage remains strong and weather conditions stay favourable, the hive can become highly productive for the main honey flow. However, seasonal conditions will always influence final results.
For this reason, good management and timely inspections remain essential throughout the season.
Health & Standards
To support strong early growth, we build each nuc on fresh foundation. Throughout spring, we monitor brood pattern, temperament and food stores closely.
Before collection, each nuc undergoes a full inspection. At this stage, we confirm that:
The queen lays consistently
The brood pattern remains even and strong
The colony shows no visible signs of disease
Varroa levels stay monitored and controlled
In addition, we follow strict UK biosecurity practices at all times. Furthermore, we operate in line with recognised National Bee Unit guidance. As a result, we maintain healthy, consistent and reliable stock year after year.
Reservation & Payment
To secure your nuc, you may either:
Pay £280.00 in full, or
Pay a £60.00 non-refundable booking fee and pay the remaining £220.00 before collection
The £60.00 deposit is strictly non-refundable. Therefore, it secures your allocation for the season and allows us to plan production accordingly.
Collection takes place in Portsmouth in June 2026. We will contact you in advance to confirm your collection date and arrangements.
