Description
Spring 2027 mated F1 Buckfast queens
Looking to requeen a grumpy colony, head up a new split or replace a failing queen? Our spring 2027 queens are mated, laying F1 Buckfast queens, not virgins, so she’s ready to get on with the job as soon as she’s settled into your colony.
Why Buckfast?
The Buckfast bee was bred to suit the everyday beekeeper and is a favourite with hobby beekeepers. Buckfast colonies are typically:
- Calm and gentle on the comb, which makes inspections more relaxed
- Quick to build up in spring
- Good at laying an even, solid brood pattern
- Productive honey gatherers
- Less inclined to swarm than many other bees
- Good at coming through the winter
F1 means she’s the daughter of a selected Buckfast breeder queen. As with any bees, temperament and performance can vary from colony to colony and depend on local conditions and how the colony is managed.
When she’ll be ready
From the second week of April 2027, weather permitting. Queens need good mating weather, so an early or late spring can move dates a little. We’ll keep you updated.
