6 FRAME NATIONAL NUC – BUCKFAST QUEEN

Collection – Portsmouth
Price: £260.

Our 6 frame National nucs are headed by marked Buckfast queens from proven performance lines. As a result, these colonies deliver strong performance, reliability and suitability for UK conditions.

In spring, they establish quickly and expand much faster than weaker or newly made-up colonies. This means you get a strong start going into the beekeeping season.

Each nuc comes on British Standard National frames. Therefore, it suits both National and WBC hives without modification.

WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE

At collection, each nuc will contain:

  • Six frames fully covered with bees
  • At least three frames of brood in all stages
  • At least one full frame of food stores
  • A strong, healthy population of bees
  • A marked, mated and actively laying queen

In addition, we supply every nuc in a genuine Paynes poly 6 frame nuc box. As a result, transport remains secure and you can reuse the box in the future.

COLONY DEVELOPMENT

Buckfast colonies are known for strong build-up and good temperament. As temperatures rise, they expand quickly and make full use of available forage.

If conditions remain favourable, they can reach full production earlier in the season and make the most of the main honey flow.

However, seasonal conditions will always influence performance. For this reason, regular inspections and good management remain essential.

HEALTH & STANDARDS

We build each nuc on fresh foundation and monitor performance closely throughout the season.

Before collection, we inspect every nuc to confirm:

  • The queen lays consistently
  • The brood pattern remains even and strong
  • The colony shows no visible signs of disease
  • Varroa levels remain monitored and controlled

In addition, a Regional Bee Inspector has inspected all nucs, providing further assurance of colony health and compliance with UK standards.

Furthermore, we follow strict UK biosecurity practices at all times and operate in line with recognised National Bee Unit guidance. As a result, we maintain healthy, consistent and reliable stock year after year.
